Stressed out about applying for a mortgage? You don't have to be. I have excellent relationships with various mortgage lenders in the Stuart area, and they've helped me realize a few things that make the process of applying for a loan a snap.

1 – Organize a list of questions about your loan program

If you find that you do not perfectly understand the advantages and disadvantages of the various programs, be sure to bring a list of questions. I or one of my lenders will assist you with understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both programs, because it's a challenge to understand the characteristics of both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Decide when you want to lock

By locking in a rate, a lender is holding to the interest rates for the loan – ordinarily at the time the loan application is sent in. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between the day you apply for your loan and the issuing of closing documents. 3 – Decide if you want to pay additional points to reduce your interest rate

If you choose to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan, you will pay for them in cash at the time of closing. Each point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan. To decide if you should buy points, click here to use our points calculator.

4 – Gather your paperwork
